A training simulator for multicamera live production, part of Kalba Lab's work on media production pedagogy. It studies one problem: how students learn real-time, synchronised directing - resolving many simultaneous feeds under time pressure - without a studio.
Multicamera directing means resolving several expressive streams at once, live. That normally needs a control room most students never reach. The simulator isolates that moment so it can be practised and studied.
The prototype simulates a 10-camera concert with a switcher interface. Currently being rewritten as a web-based tool.
Update. Early feedback came from a few practitioners and educators in the field - substantive and directional. It is being incorporated into the web-based version.
If you teach media production or work in broadcast, I'd value your response to the approach. Get in touch for a build.
